I am an archaeologist specializing in the study of material culture in the medieval North Atlantic. My research focuses on Norse Greenlandic settlements and their remote resource regions (e.g., L’Anse aux Meadows), exploring how everyday wooden artifacts such as utensils, containers, and tableware can reveal past social behaviors, resource management strategies, or dietary practices. Through interdisciplinary methods that combine typology/morphology, a technological approach (chaîne opératoire), xylology/dendrology, and the study of medieval texts, I investigate resource use and cultural adaptation in wood-poor environments. Among other things, my work advocates for applying a framework for the co-production of knowledge in Greenland and a wider inclusion of minimally invasive techniques for studying museum collections.
