Giving

Dear Friends,

We’re so grateful for the support our program receives from our alumni and others.  Your donations help fund research travel for History undergraduate and graduate students, awards for student excellence, our student-run history journal (Alpata), the History Honors program, faculty research, visiting speakers, and much more.

You can give online to History at UF. Contributions to the general fund (002615) help support a variety of student and faculty programs in the department, and are most welcome. Please click here to contribute. Please also note that you may use the “Comments” section of the online giving form to designate a gift to go to one of the department’s specific funds. I’ve listed below some funds of critical importance.

Of course, you may also contribute via regular mail. Please send your tax-deductible donations to:

University of Florida Foundation
PO Box 14425
Gainesville, Florida 32614-2425

Please indicate the fund that you wish to support on the memo line of your check.

Finally, you may wish to consider creating a new endowment, to support something of particular interest. I’m always delighted to discuss new giving opportunities, and would welcome hearing from you.

On behalf of the staff, students, and faculty of the Department of History, thank you!

Elizabeth Dale
Department Chair

SPECIFIC DEPARTMENT FUNDS

History Honors Fund (014289): This fund was created to support our very successful department Honors Program. Students who are accepted by this program spend their senior year conducting research and writing a thesis under the supervision of department faculty and present their findings at a symposium held in the spring.

Bridget Bernadette Phillips Scholarship Fund (003477): Named for an outstanding former History student, the Phillips Fund helps to support current UF History majors to travel abroad to further their education.  This fund has supported many excellent students over the years, and we welcome your support to further this important mission.

History Department Publication Subvention Fund (022829): This fund helps support the publication of books by department faculty through subventions to scholarly presses. People who contribute $250 or more are sent their choice of a new book by a member of the department faculty.

We also have several funds that specifically help support graduate student and faculty travel to do research or present papers at conferences:

Pozzetta Memorial Fund (005505): Created to honor the memory of our late colleague, Dr. George Pozzetta, this fund is one of the primary sources of support for History graduate student travel.  These travel funds help our graduate students conduct research, and present papers at conferences.

Bertram Wyatt-Brown Memorial Travel Fund (018335): Created in honor of our distinguished former colleague, this fund helps support graduate student travel. Special preference is given to students attending the annual Southern History Association meeting.

John and Rae Houghton Graduate Travel Scholarship (023245): Created to help fund PhD student travel to the annual American Historical Association meeting.

History Alumni Research Fund (014613): Department of History alumni created this fund, to support faculty research and conference travel.  This fund helps keep our faculty at the cutting edge of historical research—work which advances our understanding of the past, and which helps make graduate and undergraduate education at UF a special experience.
