Licínio Nunes de Miranda was born in Fortaleza, Brazil. He studied in the Colégio Militar de Fortaleza and later in the Universidade de Fortaleza, where he graduated in Law in 2008. In 2014, he was enrolled in the MALAS program at UF Center for Latin American Studies. He graduated two years later, with a concentration in history, upon successful defense of his dissertation, titled “The Liberal Quinquennium: Constitutional Practice, Political Power and the Rise of Emperor Dom Pedro II of Brazil, 1844–48.” Also, in 2016, Licinio was accepted in the PhD program at the Department of History in the University of Florida. He is currently writing his dissertation, “Land of Light: Slavery and the Abolitionist Movement in Brazil, 1880–88.” His research has been featured at BBC, TYT, NPR, Slate, G1, and other media outlets in Brazil and the United Sates. His main interests in history are politics, slavery, race, abolitionism, indigenous people, and military.
