Ethan Williamson specializes in Medieval Christianity and Byzantine history. As an educator he emphasizes the importance of world history. He is currently writing his dissertation on the commemoration of papal saints in the liturgical texts of the Byzantine Empire. Williamson’s research interests include the construction of social memory, the formation of group identity, the uses of religious art and sacred space, and the relationship between politics and faith.
