Aaya Kingsbury is a first-year PhD student studying modern Latin America, specifically Cold War relations between the United States and Guatemala. Her focus is on political and cultural history, examining the experience of Mayan Guatemalans during the nation’s 30 year civil war. Aaya presented at the American Society for Ethnohistory Conference in November of 2021 while working at a Philadelphia museum. She is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Aaya completed her undergraduate education at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude. In May of 2021, Aaya completed a Master’s in Latin American history from the University of Delaware.
