Anna Lankina

Anna Lankina is Assistant Instructional Professor, U.S. Survey Course Coordinator, and UF Online Coordinator at the Department of History.

She specializes in Late Antiquity and the early Byzantine period, with a focus on fifth-century Greek historians. She has published on non-Nicene mission, the Ecclesiastical History of the non-Nicene writer Philostorgius, and representations of empire and religion in Nicene and non-Nicene ecclesiastical historians. Her research has been published in Acta Classica, Studia Patristica, and Church History. Her upcoming chapter, “Interpreting Accounts of Non-Nicene Mission: Ecclesiastical Historians on Missionary Bishops,” in the edited volume, Byzantine Missions and the Spread of Christianity: Sources, Strategies, and Stories of Eastern Christian Expansion (eds. Andrea Sterk and Sergey Ivanov), examines how contested narratives of heresy & orthodoxy intersect with accounts of Christian missions in late antiquity.

She received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida and has taught at the College of Charleston, Santa Fe College, and across multiple departments at UF. She has taught a wide variety of courses, including on the history of Christianity, Byzantine literature, and surveys of United States and pre-modern history, both in person and online. Most recently, she was an instructor of professional communication at the Warrington College of Business. This unique set of experiences allows her to facilitate the History Department’s commitment to enhancing the UF student experience with the United States survey and online course offerings. She teaches courses in ancient and medieval history as well as the United States survey.
