Matt Howland
Matt Howland serves as a Trip Lead for the White House. In this role, Matt travels in advance to prepare trips and public engagements for President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Matt has led over 30 domestic and international trips, including President Biden’s unprecedented wartime visit to Israel, Vice President Harris’ visit to Zambia, and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s historic visit to Samoa. As Trip Lead, Matt is responsible for overseeing all trip logistics, including negotiating with local government and foreign counterparts, engaging with local communities, event programming, press access, crowd management, and briefing and escorting the White House principal.
Prior to his work with the White House, Matt held the role of Chief of Communications for the U.S. Army’s emergency aid organization. Serving as communications advisor to retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Raymond Mason, Matt visited military installations around the world and led the organization's global communications strategy.
Matt began his career as a public school teacher in Gainesville, Florida before founding Youth Combine, a nonprofit youth fitness organization which grew to become the largest of its kind in Florida.
Matt received a BA in History in 2009 from the University of Florida.
