Honors Program

Sandy Chang

The History Department Honors Program is a mainstay at Keene-Flint for producing excellent undergraduate research. This academic year, Assistant Professor Sandy Chang will take over as program director from Associate Professor Sheryl Kroen, who will be on a research sabbatical. Last year 12 students graduated with honors. For the first time in three years, on April 10, 2022, the department held its History Honors Conference, where it celebrated these students and showcased the research, writing and presentation skills of UF History majors.

This year 25 students have enrolled to complete an honors thesis. All will do significant research with original source materials; some have even done research in archives abroad. Professor Chang writes,  “Undertaking an honors thesis project based on original research and rigorous scholarship is both a challenging and rewarding experience. This year, our students tackle an impressive range of topics, from gender ideals in Weimar, Germany to the history of anti-Asian hate crimes in the United States. I am thrilled to work with such a talented group of young scholars, and I hope the history honors workshop will benefit them in all phases of their research and writing.” Read more about the Honors Program here.

The History Honors Conference, held on April 10, 2022, was the first in-person meeting in three years.
