The Practicum (HIS3942) is designed to give students a solid foundation in the methods and best practices of a historian. In each practicum, students will learn how to identify sources, take notes, create a scholarly apparatus (ie, do citations), and conduct basic research. Each course also focuses on a topic in the area of the instructor’s specialization.
In the Research Seminar (4930), students will undertake in-depth research on a topic and produce a long-form essay at the end of the semester. Seminar topics vary by the specialization of the instructor.
